Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has made an astonishing move to keep Kylian Mbappe, offering him an unbelievable €1 billion deal in an attempt to sway him from joining Real Madrid.

The proposed contract would span over 10 years, binding Mbappe to the club until he reaches the age of 34, effectively making it a lifetime commitment. Notably, this would go down in history as the most lucrative sports contract ever.

Surprisingly, despite the staggering offer, Mbappe has expressed that his motivation lies beyond monetary gains, and he dreams of playing for Real Madrid, where he believes he can compete for every possible trophy.

Despite the striker’s incredible contributions to PSG, having scored 212 goals in 260 games and assisted in 98, he has communicated his decision not to renew his contract and intends to depart on a free transfer next summer.

PSG has made it clear that he must either commit to a new deal or be sold during this transfer window.

Having earned a legendary status in France, Mbappe’s hunger for glory extends to winning the UEFA Champions League, which he hasn’t achieved yet, although he did help secure the World Cup for France in 2018 and was instrumental in their journey to the final in 2022.

Aware of the fierce competition to retain the talented attacker, PSG is determined to fight tooth and nail, preparing a remarkable offer that has been described as “mind-blowing” to entice Mbappe to remain at the club.

Can Mbappe be convinced to sign a new contract

Kylian Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to expire in the summer of 2024, and the club’s frustration has grown as he declined an option to extend it for an additional 12 months.

This has prompted the board to consider selling him during the current transfer window to avoid the risk of losing him as a free agent.

Real Madrid appears to be the leading candidate to secure the services of the 2018 World Cup winner if he becomes a free agent. However, Arsenal is also contemplating making a move for him.

To preempt the possibility of Mbappe leaving on a free transfer, PSG is attempting to persuade him to stay by presenting a substantial new contract. According to a Spanish news source, the club is prepared to offer him a “mega contract,” which has received the approval of the Emir of Qatar, who oversees the club’s ownership. This potential deal would be valued at an astounding €1 billion and could potentially tie the player to PSG for the remainder of his career, featuring a suggested 10-year contract duration.

Interestingly, this contradicts previous reports that suggested Mbappe’s 2022 contract had severely impacted PSG’s finances.

Currently earning a gross annual salary of €70 million, the striker also enjoys significant bonus payments, including an €80 million bonus scheduled for this summer.

This has reportedly placed PSG in a challenging financial position, making it difficult for them to afford the risk of losing the French international star on a free transfer next year.

Despite the financial complexities, Real Madrid has allegedly prepared a contract worth over €800 million to entice Mbappe, raising the stakes even higher in this high-profile transfer saga.

Brief rundown on Mbappe’s club career

 Kylian Mbappe

On 31st August 2017, Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of Mbappé from Monaco on loan. Part of the tipping point was a convincing speech by then-Paris coach Unai Emery at the Mbappés’ home in the summer, when Zidane was not guaranteeing the youngster a starting spot at Real Madrid (fresh from their 12th Champions League triumph) with an attacking trio of Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, and Cristiano Ronaldo. PSG scout Luis Ferrer told Le Parisien:

“I remember how strong Unai was, how good! He gave his word to Kylian that he would play with him. And he kept his promise. Kylian wasn’t quite ready for a Champions League game but Unai had committed, so he played him anyway.

One night I got back to Paris at 10:30 p.m. When I arrived, I called Antero [Henrique, PSG sporting director] to give him an update and he was surprised that I hadn’t stayed in the south. The next day, at six o’clock, I took the first flight. Two hours later I rang the doorbell of the Mbappés with croissants.
