The Spanish Football Federation has accused Jenni Hermoso of lying after she claimed that she did not consent to being kissed by Luis Rubiales after the Women’s World Cup final.

Rubiales was expected to resign as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following his conduct during Spain’s victory over England in last Sunday’s final, but in a  press conference on Friday, the 46-year-old vowed that he will not resign or step down from his role and instead claimed that he is the victim of ‘social murder’ and ‘false feminism’.

In her statement released after Rubiales’ press conference, Hermoso said: “I want to clarify, that at no time did I consent to the kiss. “I don’t tolerate that my word is questioned, much less that words are invented that I haven’t said.”

Spain’s players are presently refusing to represent their national team until Rubiales is removed from his role as president of Spanish football Federation while they have also received a message of support from the Lionesses.

The 46-year-old added that it was a ‘spontaneous’ and ‘consensual’ kiss that took place during the trophy presentation last Sunday, but on Friday evening Hermoso reiterated: ‘I want to clarify, that at no time did I consent to the kiss.

Meanwhile Rubiales has apologised for his behaviour in the VIP area, but insisted in his speech on Friday that the Hermoso kiss was ‘spontaneous, mutual, euphoric and consensual’.

However, Betis’ Iglesias has gone one further by insisting that he will not represent the men’s national team until appropriate action has been taken against Rubiales.
