GH Isolo ( Health Service Commission)

GH Isolo is one of the five general hospitals under the Health Service Commission (HSC) in Lagos that offer housemanship.

The other hospitals under HSC include:
✅ GH Gbagada
✅ GH Alimosho
✅ GH Odan
✅ GH Ikorodu

There are rumors that additional centers have been approved for housemanship, but they haven’t started yet.

🏠 Accommodation

🏡 Free on-site accommodation is available within the hospital premises. There are two main housing areas:

1️⃣ Flats in a 3-storey building:

• 4 persons share a flat, plus 1 extra person in the master bedroom.
• The master bedroom has its own toilet & bathroom.
• The other 2 rooms share a toilet and bathroom.

2️⃣ Single-room blocks (A, B & C):

• Each room has its own toilet, bathroom, and kitchen.
• Block C is a 3-storey building of single rooms.

✅ Non-toxic workplace with a chance to gain hands-on experience.
✅ Doctors don’t routinely give IV drugs (only Labetalol, MgSO₄, Aminophylline).

Hospital: National Hospital Abuja (NHA)

Originally called the National Hospital for Women and Children (NHWC), NHA was initially designed to cater to women and children. However, in 2000, the name was changed to National Hospital Abuja, expanding its mandate to serve everyone.

As the referral center for almost all hospitals in Abuja, NHA experiences a high patient load, which can be overwhelming but also provides great exposure for house officers.

🏠 Accommodation

🏡 Accommodation at NHA is quite decent. House officers have their own quarters, with: Due to the limited number of rooms is now 2 persons per room. There are 4 rooms in each flat which share a kitchen.
You have to pay for light and no generators allowed in the doctors quarters.
ACs are not working in most rooms so come prepared with furnishing your room in mind.
There’s a doctors quarter’s building under construction to help ameliorate the housing shortage but it’s not yet ready as at time of reporting.

• Two blocks (A & B) with over 50 rooms.
• General kitchen shared by 3-4 persons in a flat.

🔻 Downside:

• Limited rooms compared to the number of house officers.
• Getting a room is challenging and often requires connections.

✅ Upside:

• No room-sharing – every house officer has a private room.
• Ensuite toilet & bathroom for privacy.
• Air conditioners work in most rooms.
• Steady light & water supply (most times).

Hospital: Federal Medical Centre Jabi, Abuja (FMC JABI)

FMC Jabi is a well-equipped hospital, not too big but offering a great learning environment if you apply yourself. The workload is fair—you resume at 8 AM and close by 4 PM, except when on call or handling ongoing unit activities.

🏠 Accommodation

🏡 Cost: ₦10,000/month (excluding electricity bills, total ~₦15,000–₦20,000/month).
🏢 Setup: A 4-bedroom apartment with:

• A general kitchen
• A shared living room
• Spacious & comfortable rooms

🔻 Downside:

• Access is based on connections – it doesn’t appear on the portal.
• Not within the hospital – about a 10-minute drive away.
• Limited availability – you may need to wait or rent nearby.

🚍 If you’re Abuja-based and live far, there’s a staff bus at a subsidized rate.
