The WFP Innovation Accelerator is committed to identifying, nurturing, and scaling innovative solutions that address global hunger and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN World Food Programme (WFP) Innovation Challenge 2023

In light of the unprecedented global food crisis, we are launching the WFP Innovation Challenge to seek out groundbreaking innovations that can address the urgent needs of the millions of people affected by hunger.

Shockingly, over 828 million individuals, more than one in ten of the world’s population, go to bed hungry each night. The number of people facing acute food insecurity has reached a record high of 345 million, up from 135 million in 2019.

Furthermore, the escalating prices of food and fuel have led to unprecedented costs in delivering food assistance.

This, combined with increased expenses for food and transportation, exacerbated by the economic repercussions of the pandemic, climate change, and the conflict in Ukraine, has made food inaccessible for millions of people, placing significant strain on WFP’s operations.

This edition of the WFP Innovation Challenge aims to identify and support disruptive social innovations that address key challenges in the fight against hunger.

We are particularly interested in solutions related to humanitarian assistance and supply chain resilience, as we strive to ensure that every donor dollar goes further in addressing hunger while reducing the need for ration cuts.
